About Larna

Larna has been a lawyer since 2003 having spent her first two years working in Property and Trust Law at AWS Legal in Invercargill. Larna spent the next 15 years working in the Litigation and Disputes Resolution Team at Webb Farry Lawyers in Dunedin where she was appointed a partner in 2017.

Larna established her own practice LJM Law in 2020, specialising in Relationship Property, Estate Dispute Resolution, Collaborative Law, Capacity matters and Care of Children matters.

With an extensive background in general through to complex Relationship Property, Trust and Estate Law matters, Larna is recognised as a leading specialist in these areas, she is an advocate of alternative dispute resolution and an experienced court advocate.

Larna's technical analysis and understanding of complex legal issues, means she is regularly instructed and advises other professionals in cases involving farming succession, Trusts, high-value assets and complex asset structures.

As a Court appointed representative for children and persons who may lack legal capacity to make decisions, or who are receiving compulsory care, Larna has a wealth of experience in working with people of all ages and abilities. Larna’s empathetic and pragmatic approach makes her a sought after advocate.

Larna authors work for legal publications and has authored significant content for the College of Law New Zealand LLM (Applied Law) in Advanced Family Property Maintenance and Child Support. She has presented papers at law conferences and presents continued professional development to the Southern District Health Board and other health providers.

In addition to her legal work Larna works as a volunteer with other local business leaders at United Way NZ, to allocate funding from the likes of the Tindall Foundation to local charities. After assessing the charities needs recommendations are made for organisational development, support and funding.

In 2018 Larna was selected for and successfully competed in the Pride of the South charity boxing event, for her chosen charity Koru Care Otago. She has also performed in various restaurant theatre and comic operas.

Larna is a member of Collaborative Advocacy NZ, the Family Law Section and the Otago Women’s Lawyers Society (OWLS).
